One of the terms that is heard constantly in the church environment is that, as a Christian, we are to “seek the Lord”. Not only do we hear that term, but, more importantly, we find it throughout Scripture. For example:
But What Does It Mean To Seek The Lord?
According to the Word of God, to “seek the Lord” means to purposely, intentionally, and deliberately pursue a relationship with Him. An intimate relationship with the Lord must be life’s purpose of the Christian on a daily basis. Every day. With every opportunity. At all times.
A Christian must hold to the truth that seeking the Lord is not a one-time event; rather, it is an ongoing process that unfolds and deepens over time.
How Can The Word Seek Be Defined?
There are two Hebrew words for "seek". “DARASH” means to search carefully or inquire for something. “BAKASH” means to request something with the intent of knowing.
The Greek Word for “seek” is “ZETEO”. This Greek word means “to actively search in order to find, and to crave for something.
Seeking The Face Of God
Scripture also directs us to seek the “face of God”. But what does that mean?
Seeking His “face” means to, again, purposely, intentionally, and deliberately pursue His presence. It means to pursue to know and learn of His character. To truly know Him as He is — not occasionally, but with consistency, persistence, and without preconceived conditions.
What Is The Consequence of Seeking The Lord?
When we purposefully seek the Lord, the Bible assures us that it is God who will reward us. In fact, it says that God rewards those who “diligently seek him.”
So…How Do I Seek The Lord?
We seek the Lord through prayer, and studying Scripture. We seek His presence, by acting upon and believing in what He has said to all through His Word – the Bible.
We seek the Lord by honestly desiring that our life is lived according to what He desires – His will.
